Trollbeads Mother’s Day 2014 Review

With less than a week until Mother’s Day here in the UK, it is only right that I review the Trollbeads Mother’s Day collection for 2014.

This collection didn’t initially muster up that ‘must have’ enthusiasm for me, Whilst I could not deny that the silver work was beautiful, it seemed to divert away from the Trollbeads style that I love so much. The Lavender Facet I thought was interesting and appealing, but not really for me.

At this point, I would like to thank Joseph Welch Jewellers for sending me some pieces to look at, as if it were not for seeing the beads in person I would not have indulged!

Even when the beads arrived, I still thought my opinion remained unchanged, and that was the case until I started to have a bit of a play around with the beads.

After styling the Lavender Facet, Caring Light and Daylight beads  together, I decided to try the Lavender Facet with other beads. Initially I  went for the obvious purple, white and black colour combinations. I put the Lavender Facet with a couple of faceted gemstones (Agate Dendritic and Amethyst) a couple of nice silvers (Angel Feathers and Forget-Me-Not) and a pearl (pearl is non Trollbeads version). The complementing  block colour of the Amethyst and largely white Agate Dendritic  balanced the strong pattern on the Lavender Facet  and gave it a more delicate appearance.  I then realised that actually, I really like this bead!

At the same time, I had been creating bracelets using the Trollbeads Emerald stone bead. In a spare of the moment decision, I decided to slip it onto the Lavender Facet combination I had created. The result was, in my opinion, stunning!

Taking a closer look at the Lavender Facet, what appears to be a black lattice pattern is actually a very very deep purple. It is worth noting that this is the first ‘patterned’ faceted glass bead in Trollbeads collection.

The size of the Lavender Facet and the size / shape / position of the ‘spots’ varies slightly between beads, a you can see in the photo below.

I still have some reservations over the silvers. ‘Caring Light’, whilst a beautiful bead, is too big for my liking. However that is a personal view. I must point out here that I did try to put it onto my Trollbeads bangle but it would not slide on. I am presuming that this is down to the large diameter of the bead and the hole being drilled in a straight line through, whereas the bangle is curved. It would be interesting to hear though if anyone is able to fit it onto their bangle.

Daylight is again a very simple but pretty design, though not one for me. As you can see in the picture below, it is larger than the Kaleidoscope bead. Having said that though, it is very slim and may get ‘lost’ on a full bracelet.

In conclusion, this is a timeless collection, and would make a beautiful gift for any Mother. Having said that though, I still feel that this differs from Trollbeads usual style and as such may appeal more to some than others. The Lavender Facet is the highlight of this collection for me, and being a Limited Edition is worth investing in now if you want one in your collection.

Trollbeads Mother’s Day 2014 preview

Today saw the first glimpses of Trollbeads Mother’s Day 2014 release – with an official release date of 21st March. The release includes two silvers, a faceted bead and a set of earrings.

The official names of the beads are: Trollbeads ‘Caring light’ (heart) , Trollbeads ‘Daylight’ (disc), Trollbeads ‘Lavender Facet’ and ‘Daylight Earrings’.

The Daylight earrings are the same design to complement the Daylight bead, and as a whole, the set looks great together, from the stock images at least.

The Lavender Facet will be a limited edition, so pre-ordering is recommended to secure.

With Mother’s Day this year being 30th March, this release comes very close to the actual day, another good reason to pre-order!

I am very excited to see what this collection is like in person. As stunning as the silver beads are, they do appear to have a slightly more ‘Pandora’ than ‘Trollbeads’ look to them, but until I actually see them in person I cannot really comment more.

What do you think to this release? Are you pre-ordering???
