Trollbeads Spring 2014 review – Part 3 – Drops of Delight & Ruby Falcon

Today brings a further review of this years Trollbeads Spring release. Today, I am focusing on Drops of Delight and Ruby Falcon.

Both are quite big dangles, and although both look great on a bracelet, I think they also make beautiful pendants on a standard Trollbeads necklace. As you can see, the Ruby Falcon is slightly smaller than the Drops of Delight.

To give a better idea of the size of these beads, here they are with the Nomad bead and Sun Moon & Stars Lock, also from this release:

Both the Ruby Falcon and Drops of Delight beads are beautifully detailed. The Drops of Delight I have is a gentle soft / blush pink, virtually identical to my Faceted Rose Quartz. Even against the strength of the colour in the Ruby Falcon you can still see the pink hues.

The Rose Quartz stone is more of fuller shape than the stock images may suggest, but I actually think this looks nicer. The stone itself is clear, with no inclusions. I have not done any other photos of Drops of Delight here, as I have some ideas of using it in an inspiration bracelet which I will get on here in the near future.

The Ruby Falcon that I reviewed here was not a totally smooth stone and had a brownish patch. Although this is normal and expected within natural stones, this is probably a bead to choose in person if you are looking for a solid ‘ruby’ colour stone. That aside, it did not distract from the beauty of this bead. This would definitely create a focal point on a bracelet, and personally I think it looks best with just a few beads rather than a full bracelet. As I said before, would make a great statement on its own on a necklace.

Here is the Ruby Falcon with some other beads from the collection:

For those of you who have either of these beads, it would be great to hear how you wear yours. As statement pieces from the release, are these must-haves for you or do you have other favourites?

Trollbeads Spring 2014 review Part 2 – Sparkle Kit

Today brings a review focusing solely on  the beads from the Sparkle Kit, part of Trollbeads 2014 Spring release.

Beads from left to right:  Magical Lamp, Ancient Palace, Scirocco, Fountain of Life, Desert Rose and Oasis.

‘Magical Lamp’ has a chocolate brown base colour, though in areas this does appear to be coated slightly thinner and more beige coloured undertones poke through. It is beautifully patterned with splashes that vary in colour from beige through to khaki, a hint of duck egg blue and also a slight hint of pink. The coppery inclusions add a very complementary sparkle. The patterning of this bead and also the amount of glitter do vary between beads, as with the rest of the kit.

‘Ancient Palace’ is beautiful turquoise colour, accentuated with splashes of ranging from cream to a hint of sandy yellow and traces of a rust colour. Again, this is very much complemented by the coppery sparkle.

Scirocco has to be my favourite of the set. It has a natural ‘off white’ base colour, with beautiful splashes ranging from sandy coloured to a rust colour. It is a very versatile bead that would work nicely in many colour schemes and compositions. The coppery glitter matches the splashes of  colour and are indeed reminiscent of particles of sand being blown by the wind, as per its namesake.

‘Fountain of Life’ is a stunning mid blue, conjuring up images of a tropical sea. Again, the base colour is decorated with splashes of a sandy, rusty colour; and, of course, the coppery glitter. This would work beautifully on any marine / oceanic themed bracelet.

‘Desert Rose’ is a lovely soft pink  base colour, with creamy, yellow splashes and again a sprinkling of coppery glitter. This bead is a perfect match for the Dromedary bead also from the Spring 2014 collection. In the pictures below, you can see how similar Desert Rose is to the existing Pink Desert bead, the new bead being slightly paler and with patterning. (Pink Desert is the bead on the left of the joint photo).

Lastly, we have ‘Oasis’. A mid green base with splashes of cream and sandy colours, scattered with a coppery glitter.

Trollbeads Spring 2014 review Part 1

Last Friday saw the release of Trollbeads Spring 2014 collection. Since seeing the leaked images at the end of last year, I had eagerly awaited this release. I have to say, I am not at all disappointed; in fact I am pleasantly surprised with a couple of the beads that I was not sure about. Thank you to Joseph Welch Jewellers for providing me with the beads to review.

The release takes on two themes, Arabian Nights and Hanging Gardens. Before looking at the themes, here are a few features that I feel worthy of noting.

Firstly, when the images of the release first appeared, the Sparkle kit beads were noted for their similarity to the existing Pink Desert and Blue Desert beads. On viewing the beads first hand, the pink beads are indeed very similar, along with the glass ball on the base of the Dromedary. You can see from the photo below that they all include copper colour glittery particles, the only differences are the base patterns on the new Desert Rose bead, and the fact that the Pink Desert is a slightly deeper shade of pink.

The camel itself is actually nicer than I thought. It is not a bead I would wear myself, but nevertheless there is something about it that is endearing.

Here is the Sparkle kit that I received. I know that there is some variation with these beads, but I am very pleased with my set.

The Sahara Jewel facet bead proved to be a pleasant surprise. From the stock images I wasn’t initially attracted to this bead at all, but it really is a little jewel. I thought that blue and red would not look right together, but they complement each other beautifully within this bead. And the blue is such a lovely shade. Below is a side on image.

Another side on image of the Sahara Night facet, shows that rather than the core being black, it is in fact a very deep burgundy or aubergine colour. You can see the red tone in the picture below.

Next up is the Moss Agate. I love this bead. These beads do vary in terms of how much green there is within the stone and the patchy patterning. The bead that I received has a nice even mix.

All of the silver pieces in this release are beautifully detailed. My favourite has to be the African Tortoise  with its exquisite attention to detail from all angles.

The Swan is also beautifully crafted, and as a further testimony to Trollbeads attention to detail, its underside is adorned with a heart shape where the chain threads through. Though not necessary, this adds a lovely finishing touch.

Finally, here are some bracelets made up. Some of the beads have had to be substituted, as at the time of writing, there are a small handful of beads I have not yet had the opportunity to see in person. Hopefully I will cover some more of these in the next few weeks.

I absolutely loved the Fall 2013 release but this release is even better in my eyes. The Sparkle kit complements the current Blue Desert and Pink Desert and retired brown Desert beads beautifully.

So, what do you think of the new release?? Please feel free to let me know in the comments  below!
