Poppies for the Fallen – X by Trollbeads

This Trollbeads blog post brings an X by Trollbeads bracelet that I have put together as a mark of remembrance to all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

During the First World War, much of the fighting took place in Western Europe. Beautiful countryside was blasted, bombed and fought over, turning to barren fields of mud where little or nothing could grow. Bright red Flanders poppies however, were delicate but resilient flowers and grew in their thousands, flourishing even in the middle of chaos and destruction.  The red field poppy came to be known as an internationally recognised symbol of Remembrance, and this is the inspiration behind this bracelet.

This bracelet has X by Trollbeads ‘Poppy Decadence’ as a focal piece, combined with alternating red / black x links, and finished off with a silver lock. The red links are Limited Edition links from X by Trollbeads Christmas 2014 collection.

The First World War officially ended  at 11 am  on 11th November 1918 – Armistice Day. Each year, on the eleventh hour on the eleventh day on the eleventh month millions of people observe a Two Minute Silence in the memory of those who have been affected in all conflicts.

X by Trollbeads Bloom X Bite Inspiration

Whilst from the start I have appreciated the design and craftsmanship of X by Trollbeads, the slightly edgier and more urban style  was not something that appealed to my personal taste. The Bloom X Bite release brings out a new, more delicate and more feminine side to X by Trollbeads, one that does appeal to me much more.

My favourite links from this release are ‘Poppy Decadence’, ‘Hummingbird’ and ‘Bloom’, and all three are beautifully detailed. I adore the little Hummingbird, and would love to see a similar silver appear in the original Trollbeads collection.

Below are some images that show how the new links can be used together on a bracelet. I have tried to show examples of just silver and bronze bracelets, and then also bracelets including the rubber links, as I feel the rubber links give quite a different look, even using the same decorative links. As a guide for sizing, these bracelets each have 18 links (a mixture of singles and doubles, a double counting as two links), my wrists are 16cm and the bracelet designs below fit / hang just right.
